Even More Bad Homeowner Habits You Should Break

Something that you should change, however, are some troublesome homeowner habits that will only damage your home even more in the long run.

The saying “old habits die hard” is a quick way to express that once you’re set in your ways, it can be hard to change them. Something that you should change, however, are some troublesome homeowner habits that will only damage your home even more in the long run.

Neglecting to Repair the Gutters

When was the last time you had your gutters inspected? Gutter repair is essential. The water that falls from the sky purges whatever is caught in the gutters and drains when it rains; the problem is that this isn’t enough. Dirt, trash, fallen leaves, and twigs all contribute to the gutters not working as they should. If you ignore necessary repairs or put them off because you think they’re too expensive, you will come to regret it later on.

Not Doing Anything About Weird Creaking Noises

Odd creaking noises aren’t just spooky during the Halloween season. Now that that holiday has come and gone, it’s time to really evaluate what the creaking is telling you about your home. You should strive to be a prudent homeowner no matter how old your house is.

Rarely Opening Your Windows

Allow fresh breezes to roll in by opening your windows. After all, fall is a great time to enjoy the brisk air and let some stale air out. Besides, open windows improve ventilation. Every homeowner should take advantage of that since it can also help keep energy bills in check so long as you are responsible. Some of the other reasons open windows are so great are that they can minimize condensation, dust, allergens, and air impurities.

Letting the Air Filters Get Too Dirty

If you used to live in an apartment, you’re used to maintenance workers coming by every so often to inspect your HVAC unit. Part of what they do is replace the old air filter so you won’t have to; as a homeowner, though, that responsibility is yours. Don’t let your air filters get too filthy. Unfortunately, the air filters won’t be your only concern – pay attention to the water filters, too. Impure water can be harmful to your health, and besides, it doesn’t taste very good, either!
