What Should You Know About the Mold Hiding in Your Home?

The threat of mold and mildew is always there.

The threat of mold and mildew is always there. Even though it lurks in the background, there are some proactive steps you can take to prevent it from taking root and forming an infestation. These pests hide in the dampest and most humid corners of your house. And it’s more than likely that it’ll happen somewhere out of the way. So just what should you know? We’re glad you asked – so let us give you some valuable information

You Can Find It Anywhere

One of the most alarming attributes of mold is that it can spawn pretty much anywhere. The three primary conditions that allow it to form and get out of hand are simple: Temperature, moisture, and sustenance. In other words, they need food. Leaks, flooding, and humidity are what causes mold and mildew in the first place.

There Are Two Categories

There are two main categories that most molds fall into, despite what you may think. What are these classifications? Allergenic and toxic. The allergic molds give you a reaction that worsens upper respiratory symptoms. Toxic molds sound scary by name alone, but the CDC insists it’s incorrect because of a lack of evidence it can profoundly damage your health. Even so, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

You’ll See Multiple Colors

Want to know something else about most molds and mildews? They’ll display a disturbing spectrum of colors. Some examples include brown, green, black, grey, orange, and strangely enough, pink. The age changes its color, as does what it feeds on – you might even see some strains that take on different colors during their lifespan.

Not Just in the Bathroom

It’s a common misconception that you’ll only see mold accumulating in your home’s bathroom. One place you’ll find it? The kitchen. Basements, cabinets, windows, fabric, carpet, and upholstery can all become victims as well.

Some Solutions for Attacking and Remediating the Spread

How do you confront mold and eliminate it? For one thing, you must remove the moisture source that is fueling its growth. Once that is done, proceed to clean up by removing everything contaminated by its spores. Dry out the objects and materials that have not gone moldy yet. If you need help remediating the infestation inside your home, there are many reputable companies out there that can assist you!
