Taking Your Open Floor Plans to the Next Level

Even if your home wasn’t built with this principle in mind, you could still make it work! Here are some ideas on how to elevate your home’s open floor plans and impress everyone who comes over to spend time with you!

Choosing an open floor plan is one of the best ways to make your home feel bigger on the inside. Even if your home wasn’t built with this principle in mind, you could still make it work! Here are some ideas on how to elevate your home’s open floor plans and impress everyone who comes over to spend time with you!

Add Some Area Rugs

Hardwood floors are an elegant element of your home. One of the best reasons to have them is that they fit virtually anywhere in your home. However, cushioning the floors with some area rugs can make them even more aesthetically pleasing. Smaller area rugs can define different sections of a room while helping feel comfier, warmer, and cozier. These three attributes are especially important during the doldrums of winter when it is too cold to go outside.

Choose the Correct Colors

Colors can change the character of any open floor plan. That’s part of the reason why it’s crucial to pick the right ones. Neutral colors on sofas, comfortable chairs, and bookshelves can help ease the transition from one section to the next. Balance softer colors with bolder ones, depending on what aspects of your floor plan you want to highlight.

Let There Be Light

Another idea is to improve the amount of available lighting. Lights and light fixtures can help you put a literal spotlight on something you want to show off to your guests. Two popular zones to light up are the formal dining table and the kitchen island.

Flow Through Different Spaces

As we mentioned above, transitioning from one spot to the next is critical. Flowing through the different spaces of your open floor plans can make all the difference. The furniture shouldn’t get in the way, especially if you are planning a housewarming party and expecting a large turnout.
