Remodeling Your Bathroom to Maximize Space

When bathroom remodeling, install clear shower doors, large mirrors, and neutral colors to maximize your space.

By making a few small changes, you can maximize your bathroom space and make it appear larger than it is. Even the smallest changes can make a big difference and create the perception of a larger space. If you aren’t ready for a ground-up bathroom renovation, these remodeling tasks can create what feels like a whole new bathroom and help you maximize your space.

Paint With Muted Colors

Use light colors to make a small room feel larger. Neutrals and light pastels give your bathroom an airier and more open feel. Darker colors, such as brown, green, or dark red, make your bathroom feel smaller. Light colors reflect light, making the room feel more spacious, whereas darker colors absorb light, making the room feel more confining. You can add pops of bold color with artwork, towels, or plants.

Glass-Enclosed Showers

Shower curtains and opaque door closures provide a visual stop and make the room appear smaller. By changing these out for glass enclosures, your eye continues further into the room, creating the illusion that it is much larger than it is. A frameless enclosure can do even more to maximize your bathroom space.

Use Mirrors

Light bounces off mirrors and adds the illusion of additional depth. Frameless mirrors provide clean lines without any sudden stops, only enhancing the perception of more space.

Free Up Floor Space

Free up floor space by installing a pedestal sink or a wall-mounted sink vanity. A long floating vanity can be a huge space saver, especially if equipped with drawers or cabinets. Hidden storage removes visible clutter and helps your bathroom feel more spacious.

Use Similar Materials

Using similar tiles for the floor and the shower creates continuous lines that your eye follows. Using similar materials and colors for your countertop can also add to this flow. Using too many dissimilar materials can make the room feel busy and crowded. Larger tiles can also make the room feel more spacious because fewer grout lines also help the space feel less cluttered.

Add Natural Light

A great design is ultimately the key to maximizing your bathroom space. One factor to consider for your bathroom is where you can take advantage of natural light. Natural light adds to the feeling of openness in your bathroom. If your budget allows, consider adding a larger window or a skylight.

When incorporating these various remodeling choices, you can turn any bathroom into a space that feels open, luxurious, and timeless.
