The custom home building process can be tricky, but it doesn’t have to be. Your friends at Accessible Home Builders are standing by to help you answer whatever questions you might have. For instance, you might not know the best place to put the laundry room in your new home. Here is a guide on how to do it!
How much room will you have? This is one of the most important questions to answer. The laundry room doesn’t always need to be its own dedicated room. It can be in the basement next to a secondary refrigerator; it could be in the mudroom connected to the garage, or elsewhere on the first floor. It all comes down to the amount of space you have available, and since you are building a custom home, you can help determine the dimensions of the floor plan instead of having it decided for you.
Next, think about the location of utilities. The two primary concerns are the power source and plumbing lines, but you will also have to think about drainage and ventilation.
The layout of the laundry room also matters. Since you are designing a custom home, you will have input over the size and shape of the rooms within limits set by building codes and land lots – the style of house you live in depends on the neighborhood where you settle and how much square feet is available for use. Galley-style rooms save space, which is an excellent choice for smaller custom homes. L-shaped and U-shaped rooms are also practical layouts and are incredibly versatile for what you need for washing and drying. Plus, there is much more storage in L and U-shaped laundry rooms than in galley-style laundry rooms.
