This custom home was recently completed in "The Wood on Herring Creek" in Angola. We modified it for the owners from a plan found on the Donald Gardner Architects web site. The design includes large window units that take full advantage of the waterfront site on which this home was constructed. The owners of this home were able to walk through this home before construction as our salesperson Dale Strohmaier and his wife built this home for themselves six years ago.
As the picture shows, the front view of this home provides terrific "curb appeal". On the inside, long sight lines give an open feeling and a view to the water from almost any spot in this home. Adding the back screened porch and deck extend the living area out doors for summer time enjoyment and entertaining.
A dilemma facing these owners was the steep sloping lot they purchased where the road is the high point and the water is the low point. Since the County is bringing sewer to this community all connections are at the road. The owners decided to raise the home to provide plumbing fall to the road for the sewer connection. A member of our staff met with the owners at the site to determine how high the foundation needed to be to accomplish this goal. After taking many points with a laser level it was determined that a nine block foundation was needed to get fall to the road. A side benefit to this decision is the tall crawl space they have. What great storage they can utilize with about 72" of height in this crawl space. Wow!
